Well that's a tough one to start out with as the Friars are considered one of the best teams in the B-East. Good look for the schedule however, especially since this might become the only major college opponent when the schedule comes out. Hopefully there is some decent $ in the contract despite the terrible circumstances this season. (And hopefully Ed is nice and remembers where he came from).
Lots of history between the Stags and Friars playing up in Providence. They used to compete against each other in the 60s in what I think is the same building that this game will be played in, back when such stars as Jimmy Walker, Lenny Wilkins and Vinny Earnst, playing for a great coach in Joe Mullany, competed against some of the greatest Stag teams ever led by coach George Bisacca and featuring players such as Mike Branch, Billy Jones, Jimmy Brown, Pat Burke, Art Kenney (I could go on and on) in titanic battles. And moving into the early 70s, it was Fairfield who was the first opponent for Providence when the Friars opened up the brand new Providence Civic Center (now the Dunkin' Doughnuts Center) in I think 1972. The result wasn't great that night BTW, but the Friars did have a couple of All-Americans in Ernie DiGregorio and Marvin Barnes. Anyway, I like the fact that these schools will be resuming their series on the basketball court.

After 29 years of playing at various locations throughout Rhode Island, the PC Men's Basketball team played its first game in their on-campus Alumni Hall (2,606 seats) on December 3, 1955, beating rival Brown University, 77-55. The next 17 seasons saw the Friars post an impressive 179-27 (.869) record in Alumni Hall. In 1972, with the popularity of the men's basketball program and the completion of the Providence Civic Center, the Friars played their last game in Alumni Hall in March, beating St. John's, 73-65.
The 12,410 seat Providence Civic Center (Dunkin Donuts Center) opened on November 3, 1972. On December 11, 1972 the Fred Barakat Stags (18-9) lost 57-93 to Providence. Since the 1948-49 season, Fairfield is (5-32) against Providence College.
Through the efforts of Rev. Victor Leeber, S.J., Fairfield University introduced men's basketball in 1948 (9-14) and has played continuously since then.
Hopefully we do play Providence on the 25th (I hesitate to take anything for granted with the uptick in Covid cases recently), because it'll be a good level of competition for us to learn things about Green, Leach, Cheff, and Edokpayi. I'd love to see the two freshman play in a way that indicates they'll be excellent players for us in the coming season and have the two transfers play in a way that'll indicate they'll be leaders on this team for this season.
I hope the colleges don't knee jerk react to one positive case and shut down the program like many high schools are doing. They should simply quarantine the positive kid ( not sick, just positive mind you). I think most students know enough not to mingle with those who are more likely to be severely affected.
A positive case, with or without symptoms, requires 10 days of isolation since the date of the last positive test. And any close contacts, within 6 feet for 15 minutes over a 24-hour period, require 14 days of quarantine. Those are the guidelines. I doubt Fairfield or any MAAC school would circumvent them. Let’s hope no one gets infected.
Even with an effective vaccine, we are never going to have zero cases. This is likely to smolder here and there for years -- maybe forever. That's the new reality. So does that mean lockdowns every month? How will the MAAC and other conferences react if they continue to have a case pop up periodically. I think we know the risks -- not entirely, but fairly well. Let's play

Who said lockdown. But if there are cases on a basketball team who is going to want to play them.
Seems to me that many sports teams are erring on the side of caution. That's fine but this "season" is likely to be one of sputters and disappointment. If they drastically cancel a couple subsequent games every time someone associated with the team tests positive (which is inevitable), why bother? We could end up with playing 10 games. There needs to be a better plan such as immediately testing everyone on the team with the quick test over the next three days, and letting the negative players continue playing out the schedule. Wholesale cancelling of games (which is what many high schools are doing ) is stupid unless the majority of the team is ill. Many organizations are being overly politically correct when the the risk is fractional for healthy kids and adults under 60. Doctor friend of mine says this virus may very well be with us for the foreseeable future. We need better solutions to allow life to continue.
Big East teams bracing for COVID-19 challenge: ‘Total s–t show’
At the forefront of the Big East’s media day was the novel coronavirus and how (if?) a college basketball season can be played in the middle of a pandemic that has shown no signs of slowing down, especially with the NCAA’s recommendation of a team-wide 14-day quarantine for a single positive test....The regular season is supposed to start on Nov. 25. The conference season is scheduled to begin on Dec. 11. Teams will be tested three times per week. Nevertheless, much remains uncertain due to the virus....
Nature will find a way to follow its course. It may be this virus must sweep across the majority of the populace in order to get over this. Some scientists say the social distancing, closing of schools and businesses, curtailed travel, banning of crowd events and quarantines are only delaying the inevitable need for the virus to run its course. Except for the wise precautions to protect the frail, elderly, and those with vulnerable health issues, much of the restrictive reactions may be prolonging this pandemic, Personally if I were to attend a game wearing a mask and spaced from others, i do so understanding the risks -- same as when I visit a store, get a haircut or leave the house for anything else. Sorry to hijack this but whatever the schedule, every effort should be made to play every game.
This will be a season of interruptions, sputters, cancelled games etc. Count on it! The NCAA is planning on it happening. That is precisely why the NCAA Div 1 council recently passed legislation allowing for players completing their last year of eligibility to be granted another year of eligibility. What will be interesting is how the different conferences normalize the Win-loss records of the teams in their conference when the teams may complete a different number of games because of Covid -19 interruptions?

Yes, every effort should be made to play the games. Prior rules don't need to be followed like ...... a team should not play 2 games in a row. Matter of fact, a team could play a double header on a single day (Morning and Afternoon ...... if that is what is needed.
