Good, some common sense prevails. The entire focus of most athletic teams during COVID is to minimize travel, so it only makes sense to defer this game u til 21/22 season.
Couldn't have said it any better myself. And I am certainly glad that next year the game will be played. Although I have been thinking all along this is what might happen, I have to admit having some doubts the longer the contest remained on the schedule. Now with this one off the slate I wonder if the Stags might pick up a different game (more local of course) as a replacement. There is a lot of manipulation going on with many schools this year where teams might pick up opponents on the fly based on health considerations. Actually there is a precedent in another college sport, that being baseball. Schedule juggling is routine with those programs, the primary reason being weather problems. But anyway, maybe a 'surprise' contest is still a possibility. I would say there is at least a 25% chance of that happening.
Everybody has to be flexible .... two games vs Hartford. You never know.
Our women teams can't play SHU today do to SHU having Covet issues
One thing Jay said in his interview with Bob and Joey D. was that in order to be qualified to go the the NCAA (besides most likely winning the MAAC tourney of course), the team would have to have played a minimum of 13 games in the regular season. Therefore I'm sure that's why they worked very hard to get this arrangement with the Hawks considering some cancellations could occur down the road. So kudos to the two schools for working this out. As far as their team, John Gallagher's crew was pretty good last season, although they did lose a key player to graduation I think. Maybe Jennings (who has some dual allegiance) could weigh in a bit as we get closer to playing them. Anyway, this is the equivalent of playing another MAAC school home and home. Therefore it is a good and fair match-up, especially under the circumstances.
Anyone know who we will be playing in November/December?
Here is the best guess on returning games:
Holy Cross Loyola Wagner
@ Bucknell @ UMASS @ William and Mary @ Boston College (Maybe Home or Mohegan Sun)
Sacred Heart (Likely Away) Ireland Tourney?
If we do end up hosting Loyola in next season's OOC, they might have a player highly thought of by NBA scouts. That would mean Aldama determines he's not yet ready for the NBA in this year's draft.
