Iona athletic site indicates one positive case on Men’s Hoop team is the reason for shutdown. No mention on the Iona site of any games being postponed or canceled as of a few minutes ago. Nothing on Canisus site about a shutdown of Basketball program.
Ah - looks like some of the tweets from this morning jumped the gun a bit on Iona cancelling games.
Here is a link about Canisius.

Iona basketball on 14-day pause after positive COVID-19 test
A day after Seton Hall announced it had paused preseason practices due to positive COVID-19 tests, Iona and Rick Pitino had to do the same, the school announced.
A source said the program has one positive test, but it is not a player. Wednesday was the first day of the 14-day pause, following NCAA guidelines. While Iona has yet to cancel any games, the opener against Fordham on Nov. 25 is almost certainly out, the source said, while the team’s three games scheduled in the Mohegan Sun bubble, scheduled for Nov. 29, Dec. 1 and Dec. 2, is unlikely.
Iona is eligible to return to practice on Nov. 26. Until then, players, coaches and staff members have to quarantine and can only work out separately......
Hmm..bold move by Ivy League. I could see the Patriot League following suit and then some MAAC people wondering if we should cancel or delay season until January.
Absurd move. Complete over-reaction to cancel season with no chance of Spring rescheduling. There are a couple vaccines on the horizon people! Just shut down everything why don't you. Close the doors...goodbye FU.
And what if the vaccine is only 90% effective? Good lord, are they going to close down sports programs then?
Infected players simply need to quarantine and life should go on!

Ivy League winter sports canceled due to coronavirus pandemic
The Ivy League has canceled its winter sports for the 2020-21 season because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the league announced Thursday.
There also is no guarantee spring sports will be held as the conference is postponing those sports until at least the end of February. The league also said it will not conduct the fall sports during the spring.
The Ivy League Council of presidents unanimously made these decisions.
“The Council will continue to closely monitor and evaluate the public health climate and consider changes to policies when warranted in order to return to more normal campus operations, including potential spring intercollegiate athletics competition,” the Ivy League said in a release.
Winter and fall sport student-athletes will not lose a season of Ivy League or NCAA eligibility.....
The latest methodology being used is to designate the athletic dept. and players into various tiers. Tier 1 is the coaches/staffs and players directly associated with the sport. A positive test in a person designated as tier 1 for basketball results in a 14 day suspension of activities. “When teams are traveling, only institutional staff and student-athletes that are designated as Tier 1, along with Tier 2 Presidents, Athletic Directors, Senior Woman Administrators and key conference staff members are permitted entrance to a team's facility.” It is reasonable to expect more tier 1 interruptions during the season. In fact the MAAC is planning on interruptions. Under current methodology I just don’t see how a conference basketball season can be completed! Certainly, out of conference games make no sense IMO.
As determined by the MAAC Basketball Working Group, there will be no spectators in attendance at any game hosted by a MAAC member prior to Dec. 23. At that time, both the MAAC and Fairfield University will reassess this policy in conjunction with local, state, federal and institutional guidelines. Fans will be able to watch all Fairfield University home games -- as well as every road conference game -- on the ESPN family of networks.

4 Away (BIG EAST Providence, AE Stony Brook, NEC Sacred Heart, CAA William & Mary) and 1 at Home (AE Hartford) in Alumni Hall. Two back to back games on Nov. 28/29 (@ Stony Brook, @ Sacred Heart).

Four winnable games. Gotta get at least three. I'm not thrilled playing Sacred Heart on the second night of a back-to-back. I really want to win that one. I'm also glad the BC and UMass road games have been moved to next season, hopefully when attendance is allowed again.
I hope we can find a way to play these games and the league schedule. I am less optimistic with each passing day.

How many wins - 4,3,2 or 1?
My take:
@ PC: My hope is to keep it close and catch PC early in the season. I feel as though Cooley teams peak midway or year end so maybe we catch them early and play tough but still an L
@ Stony Brook: This is of sorts a Jay Young revenge game. Could have been the Head Coach and I am glad we got him instead. They lost all 5 starters to transfer. I think on the road we pull out a W because of our returning experience.
@ SHU: Talk about another team with talent depleted because of transfers. SHU is coming off a 20 win season but I think they struggle to find the talent to compete early with us. This should be a W in my opinion.
vs. Hartford: This is an interesting one. Picked in the middle of the pack in the American East for the coaches poll. I really think if this was on the road could be tougher than expected but with it being at Fairfield I say we get the W.
@ W&M: Last but not least, after a 20 day layoff (12/2 Hartford game to 12/22 W&M game) we will play the rematch from last year's thriller at Alumni Hall. Out of all the game I went to last year this was one of my favorites, even though we lost. To our benefit W&M lost Nathan Knight who torched us for 21 and 10 boards at Alumni. I still don't think we have enough to win and based on the 8ish hour "day trip" we will struggle. We will get the L.
I hope we can find a way to play these games and the league schedule. I am less optimistic with each passing day.
If college football is any indication, I'm with you on concern for the season. Already 13 college football games this weekend postponed/canceled. I imagine the sheer numbers give basketball an advantage over football, but it's not clear if that will be enough.
Loss to Providence - the J Young Defense will keep the game close Loss to Stony Brook - an away loss Win vs SHU - this will be like a nuetral court, we are undefeated against SHU Win vs Hartford- this is a true home game W&M game will not be played fo Covet-19 reasons
Stags open season 2-2. Maybe we play W&M in February.

Well under this definition of rules concerning what happens if anyone in Tier 1 gets infected, I would say I agree with you that the odds are pretty bad in regard to completing a season. Just takes ONE person getting a positive test to shut everything down. The thing is, once this happens and activities are suspended for 14 days, even after that it would take pretty much a week to get a team in decent shape to compete reasonably well. In fact Dan Hurley of UConn has expressed that very thought by suggesting that the Huskies, currently shut down, might have to cancel their first 4 scheduled games. Be kind of walking a tenuous line every day.
OTOH I might slightly disagree with you concerning the OOC contests, or at least 4 of them (exception of course William and Mary). I would try very hard to get in as many games as possible in this season, whether they are in the league or not. And certainly the locations of Providence, Stony Brook, SHU and Hartford lesson the danger. So I would go for it there. But as far as the trip to W&M, the last thing I read is that the state of Virginia is currently a no-go as far as free legal travel with people from Connecticut. That in itself (assuming the situation remains the same) should be reason enough that the contest between the two schools should be canceled WITHOUT PENALTY. So I hope common sense ultimately wins out with this situation.
