Guy F will need to update his information on Siena as verbalcommits is showing they have two new transfers coming in — one is 6’7” from Iowa and the other is a 6’6” SG from Utah. Baer, the Iowa player, doesn’t have impressive stats — but Stormo’s stats at Pepperdine were also unimpressive before he got to Siena.
Stormo shot 12-13 in his two games against us this year. You might call him the (almost) Perfect Stormo.
A link to get to the page on the Iona message board with the detailed information on roster changes for all MAAC teams that Nashville referenced above:
Nashville or any other poster, are you able to give a preliminary tier breakdown for next year's MAAC teams based on this information? I'm guessing between transfers and commitments coming in and who's leaving that Iona and Manhattan probably will have improved rosters. The question is -- Is our roster comparable in talent to their rosters? Also, what value should we place on who the head coach is. Personally, I think Pitino will get more out of his talent than Masiello will at Manhattan.
Way too early to pinpoint exactly where each program is of course, but based on this complete list I don't think there is any doubt that Pitino and Iona have more than fortified their roster with 3 and 4 star transfers and freshmen who will more than make up for the losses they will have from this past year. Totally different situation compared to Manhattan who doesn't look like they have added that much. The Jaspers BTW have been a mediocre or worse program for many years now and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
As for the others, there maybe has been slight improvements, the most likely being Rider and Quinnipiac. OTOH a couple such as Monmouth and St. Peter's have lost quite a bit more talent then they have gained IMO. As far as the Stags are concerned I am sticking to a point I have been expressing for awhile now that by bringing EVERYONE of note back from a team that was playing as well as anyone else in the league late in the year (sans Iona) plus adding three freshmen not to mention formerly injured rotation players in Maidoh and Leach, when you take all this into consideration, I am excited for their prospects for the first time in the Jay Young era. But like I said it is WAY TOO EARLY to understand all the ramifications of the many roster changes. Be interesting to see if any more changes are forthcoming, something that apparently Guy F. on the Gael's forum is keeping track of.
UMBC picked up two former MAAC players as Hakim Byrd (Marist) and Salnave (Monmouth then DePaul) have committed to UMBC. I'm wondering if Byrd and Salnave based their decision more on an opportunity for playing time or a desire to play several games in front of the UMBC dance team.
Jon Rothstein @jonrothstein 18m Source: UMass transfer Tre Mitchell has cut his list to the following programs.
LSU Texas Georgia Florida State Bryant Illinois
Tre Mitchell had a pretty good game against us when we played them in Bridgeport a couple of seasons ago. But it's very surprising to see Bryant as one of his final 6 transfer possibilities along with 5 high major programs.

A Jaden Daly tweet shows that he believes we'll be in the mix for the top 5 in next season's MAAC race. It is of course way too early to know anything for sure about how the MAAC season will play out, but it is encouraging that someone who covers the MAAC extensively thinks we belong in the discussion of who the non-PIG teams will be.
Jaden Daly dalydoseofhoops 23h I’d take Fairfield over Manhattan, and maybe even Quinnipiac, but this is probably what the actual poll will look like.
Also, Saint Peter’s jumps back in if Ndefo comes back, and might even be 2nd or 3rd. Quote Tweet Gaelforce @gaelforce · 23h Replying to dalydoseofhoops Way too early MAAC top 5. My list Iona Rider QPAC Monmouth Manhattan

Big article today in the Connecticut Post concerning the whole transfer situation as it stands now. Lots of quotes and opinions. The local guy the paper went to is Anthony Latina of Sacred Heart and not Jay Young. That's too bad because I would like to have heard where the Stag coach stands with what's going on. Anyway, well worth reading for so many people here that have been opining about the subject for quite awhile now in this thread.

Perez' drop in ppg from Gardner-Webb to Marquette is a bit more than the average according to this Rothstein tweet from a few days ago:
Jon Rothstein @jonrothstein May 14 Last year's transfers (2020) by the numbers:
High Major to High Major --- 24% increase in PPG.
Mid Major to High Major --- 54% decrease in PPG.
High Major to Mid Major --- 21% increase in PPG.
However, Rothstein didn't include what happens when a mid major transfers to a mid major, nor did he mention where these numbers came from (did Rothstein compute them himself? or did he take this information from somewhere else without acknowledging the source). Also ppg is the only statistic mentioned, perhaps if there is another source, they also provided rpg and apg

I don't know about all the particulars in how and what Rothstein is putting out there, but really, there is only so much you can bring out in a tweet. And this one follows his normal style with these type of things plus he has a reputation of being spot on most of the time so I'm sure he isn't just picking up these numbers out of the blue. But anyway regarding this one particular kid, my guess is that Manhattan, who has really struggled to identify a big-time scorer for years, may have hit a home run here. For two straight years in the Big South Conference he averaged over 15 PPG. Forget the Marquette numbers as he really didn't play that much there. This player might be an all-MAAC performer in waiting, and if he is, the Jaspers have certainly moved up in status.
As a frosh they went to the NCAA tournament and lost a pretty good effort as a #16 vs. #1 Virginia - leading until 16:27 of the 2nd half. Perez lead the scoring with 19. Not a great shooter - but he gets his points. Good rebounding and assist numbers. Seems like he'll be Manhattan's main guy?
