Mamadou is intriguing, and there has to be a relationship with JY.
But even if we are looking to add another player at this point, he would not be my first choice. I've never seen him play, but there are some similarities with Malcolm Gilbert: both were 4-star players coming out of HS even though neither were at all proficient offensively (Mamadou only averaged 11ppg as a HS senior). Like Malcolm, Mamadou hasn't blossomed in his 4 years despite playing in 71 games. It's never bad to have another big body, but we are most in need of a player(s) who can put the ball in the basket.
I hope Mamadou finds somewhere where he can be successful, just not in the MAAC.
Listen what you said was right. But here is another spin.
Siena takes in a transfer who had no playing time or production at Pepperdine prior. Expectations low. And here is what he does:
I think any of us would love to have a 10 PPG 5 RPG Big Body. Moral of the story is no one knows. Mamadou might just need a shot. Hes 6'9 250, we don't have that right now in the program. We would also get 2 years of him which is a huge plus vs. a come and go type like Eze.
*Bonus* Also, what killed us besides the 3 ball last year...Interior Defense. Our bigs could not match up with Stormo or Nelly JJ. We need guys who can defend in the paint and be a factor down low. I think he can help in that area.
Yeah, while I'd prefer someone who can play defense AND score 15ppg, it'd be hard to argue against taking a chance on a 6'9", 250 kid for 1 year.
It may all be moot because it doesn't seem like we plan to make any more roster changes. We'll see!

I have a funny feeling that we aren't done by the rumors of us reaching out to other transfers...
2 years** which I think changes the whole story. He actually reclassified from 2018 to 2017 when we went to Rutgers.
Here are some notes from the Rutgers website:

I agree, my guess is there won't be any more changes (but I don't know). Anyway if that's the way it is I think the Stags have a chance to have major improvement based upon the way the second half of this past season ended and the fact that all the guys have been together now for well over a full year. And on paper (and that's all it is) I like the looks of the incoming freshmen class. Like you said, "we'll see."
The kid from Siena also has Jalen Pickett passing him the ball. I think there are a LOT of bigs sitting on a bench somewhere that you could throw into that position and have them suddenly put up good numbers in the MAAC.
I don't think Fairfield has any room left (or anticipates having any). But - if they did add one more guy - I'm in favor of a high scoring guard that can create. Leach may be that guy, but I suspect he won't be that guy next year.
Look at the FG makes. This is not a "throwing them the ball inside" situation. This is our interior D needing to improve because our biggest Center is 200 pounds. It will come in time but I think everyone is under estimating the issue.

Eh... Williams was the only "big" on an all-MAAC team and 14pt 3rb games are nice - but the Stags did win 2 of those. NJJ wasn't so hot in the first 2 games vs. Fairfield.
I'm not saying Fairfield couldn't be better - but I think that the combination of guys we already have + Willis is going to be pretty good. If we could swap Chef (probably the last guy in the big rotation) for a 6'9" 250lbs guy - that would probably fit better - but I think the far greater need is a scorer.

BINGO!

If Fairfield is not actively recruiting the opportunities on the transfer portal, they may be one of the only teams that are not. There is no excuse not to try to improve your roster at any chance.

I’m sure we are. It was noted we reached out to Aaron Wheeler before he committed to St. John’s so I’m sure there are others Fairfield is in contact with.

Four Rutgers players have entered the portal. Here are some pertinent 2020-21 stats/info:
Myles Johnson (8 ppg, 8.5 rebounds. 2.4 blocks)
Jacob Young (14.1 ppg, 3.4 assists)
Montez Mathis (8.3 ppg)
Mamadou Doucoure (four-star recruit/big body)
I suspect they will all play for a high major next year, but any one of them would help the Stags. Certainly, Mathis and Doucoure should consider mid-major schools. Jay Young coached them all; he should at least be able to get an audience.
There are 1,200 players in the portal, many of whom could help us. It would be a travesty if Fairfield is sitting on the sidelines and ignoring all this available talent.
