I just hate to see the Stags NCAA tournament destiny be in the hands of others. That is precisely what has happened by losing the MAAC championship. I remember Monmouth basketball not being invited to the NCAA tournament even though they had a 25-5 record . A loss against a poor Canisus team on the road was the supposed reason the bid was denied. What value will the committee place on the stags wins mostly accomplished at home and in some cases against some very weak teams. Let’s hope most of the favorites in superior conferences win their tournaments and earn bids leaving enough at large bids available for the stags to be invited. Yeah that's what the Stags will have to hang their hats on I'm afraid. OTOH I do like the thoughts listed above from a couple of people who are well-connected in the sport who seem to be suggesting the team has a real decent chance of getting in. The fact that Kyle Peterson, ESPN college baseball chief color guy for many years plus Kendall Rogers who writes article after article about the sport on the website D-1 Baseball are liking their chances have to mean something I think. After all, their reputation is on the line on things they opine on. So let's hope they are on the mark this time.

Rider 7-2 wins the MAAC Baseball Championship for the third time and goes to the 2021 College World Series Fairfield, the 2021 MAAC Regular Season Champions, gives up 5 home runs, leaves 10 men on base, score only 2 runs despite having 10 hits. Stags finish their record setting season at (37-3) 73, just a technicality (and I'm not trying to be a wise-guy), but actually Rider is not yet going to the College World Series which is the 8 team event that is played in Omaha every year. Rather they are now in the field of 64 in the NCAA Tournament as they attempt to achieve that World Series goal, something that would take two successful regional weekends to make happen.

nash, Not a problem and I don't think you are a wise guy but you are correct. However, never let the facts get in the way of a good posting. 2021 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament: ScheduleSelection show: Noon ET on Monday, May 31, on ESPN2 Regionals: Friday, June 4 through Monday, June 7 Super Regionals: Friday, June 11 through Monday, June 14 CWS Opening Celebration Day — Friday, June 18 First day of CWS games — Saturday, June 19 CWS Finals — Start Monday, June 28 (best out of 3) Final championship game — Tuesday/Wednesday, June 29/30 What is the difference between the Division I baseball tournament and the College World Series? The NCAA Division I baseball tournament is a 64-team tournament that starts in May. After two rounds of play (which each consist of multiple games), there are just eight teams left. These eight teams then head to Omaha, Nebraska for the College World Series. The CWS is the culmination of the DI tournament, where the teams compete in two brackets, with the winners of each meeting in the CWS finals, a best-of-three series to decide the NCAA champion. When did the College World Series start? The first-ever NCAA Division I baseball tournament was in 1947, and would barely be recognized as the same tournament nowadays. The 1947 tournament featured just eight teams, which were divided into two four-team, single-elimination brackets. The two winners — California and Yale — then met in a best-of-three final in Kalamazoo, Michigan. California would go undefeated through the inaugural CWS and beat Yale to capture the first title. How are teams selected for the NCAA Division I baseball tournament?Since 1954, the NCAA Division I baseball tournament field has been split into two qualifying groups: The automatic berths, and the at-large selections. Since 2014, that in a typical year split sees 31 conference champions receive automatic berths, and 33 teams receive at-large bids, decided by the NCAA Division I Baseball Committee. In 2021, there are 30 automatics and 34 at-large bids. www.ncaa.com/news/baseball/article/2021-05-27/2021-college-baseball-tournament-selection-show-time-how-watch

This baseball group is the best team in Fairfield sports history, with superior talent at every position, in every facet of the game. This team has been impressive but without being truly tested with an out of conference schedule, there is no way you can put them in this category. Year in and year out, volleyball dominates the MAAC. I will take any of the championship volleyball teams as the best team in Fairfield U sports history any day.

Hope the guys get the at-large bid. No matter how you slice it, a 37-3 record is mighty impressive.
No matter what happens, this team is going to have some great memories. Congratulations on an awesome season. Let's hope it continues.

The guy is an absolute loser. No class. Thats why he has all of 7 followers, lol. Well just about anyone can say anything on the web these days, so you have to take this with a grain of salt I think. Anyway in viewing a few of his tweets it is apparent that two things are constant. First thing is that he seems very happy to trash someone or some team when they are down or have had a bad performance, and the second thing is that for whatever reason he quite often uses the initial line of he, they (the subject of derision) "woke up feeling dangerous." Sort of his one track mind thought in how to get attention I guess. Anyway I think this probably will be the last time we ever pay attention to any of his musings.

Year in and year out, volleyball dominates the MAAC. I will take any of the championship volleyball teams as the best team in Fairfield U sports history any day. Well there's no question that when looking at all the athletic teams that have ever represented Fairfield University, the volleyball team is king. And with them of course you are talking about many, many years of domination. But concerning this one year of achievement by the baseball team, even with the acknowledgement of not playing OOC competition which we all know would have changed the look of the overall record, the fact is what they accomplished this year was historical, and BTW not easy at all even though they had a large percentage of games at home at Alumni Diamond. And to me what brought this point home was watching the tournament this week where you could see how so many crises points in any contest could decide success or failure. Yes they failed a couple times, and it cost them the championship. But that doesn't lessen the feeling of how often they were able to get the key hit, pitch or defensive play which meant a positive so many times. And that should never be forgotten, and that is the reason in the end that this team for this one year should be placed with all the other teams in all the sports as the, if not the best, certainly one of the best in school history.

Half assed coverage by athletics. This season has been (hopefully will continue to be) extraordinary - our community and alumni barely know about it.

Well yeah absolutely after looking at this. Of course there are many games being played across the country at this very moment and later today that could change everything, so let's keep our fingers crossed. But what really gives me hope is that at #60, the Stags would have to fall 5 spots to be left out (according to the D-1 writer). And it is interesting if they do indeed get in that despite the tournament loss to Rider, the Stags are listed in this potential bracket as going to Starkville (Miss. State), but yet are the #3 seed in that group of 4 teams rather than a #4, surely a sign of respect. OTOH the Broncs (according to this) would be sent to Knoxville (U-Tenn.) as a 4 seed. But anyway, this latest posting has me feeling a lot more hopeful than before.
