Indiana, #61 above, just gave up single runs in the 8th, 9th & 10th to lose to Maryland 4-3. Every little bit helps.

What is key to the stags getting a bid is favorites in each conference win the conference tournaments . Upsets like 3rd seed Rider beating the #1 seed stags will be the death of FF in my opinion. I hope I am wrong and the stags make it into the NCAA tournament.

Presbyterian beat Campbell so there’s another stolen bid out of the big south.
Jacksonville is about to beat Liberty too so that’s another potential stolen bid.

A 33-1 regular season is unprecedented, at any level of D-1. As probably is a 37-3 record headed into the NCAA tourney. I believe the Tourney Committee will reward that entire body of work with a bid and maybe even a 3 seed. All I ask is that we not be sent to Fayetteville, Nashville, Austin, Tuscon or Knoxville as that 3 Seed!

Yeah I guess from a Fairfield perspective these are bad developments considering the records of the two defeated teams, basically meaning they might become at large candidates. But one thing I do like (if my research is correct) is that the four teams listed just below the Stags in the "last five in" grouping listed earlier in this thread have not finished their seasons well. It looks like Georgia and Alabama have been eliminated from the SEC tournament and if I read it right I don't think LSU even made the event. And since there doesn't appear to be a Big 10 tournament this year (Covid reasons I'm sure), Indiana is in the process of closing out their regular season against Maryland with one more game to go today, but they did lose a doubleheader to the Terps yesterday. So I guess when you add it up this is mixed news at best. I don't claim to understand the sport as well as I do basketball, therefore I will continue to keep my fingers crossed concerning the 'experts' optimistic picture of the Stags. Of course I will be waiting anxiously to see if there are any changes of opinion both today and then tomorrow morning when all the various league tournament results should be in the books. It is exciting though that Fairfield Baseball in in this conversation, is it not?

There is one very important contest today that should be watched, and this one is something that I do claim to know something about since my nephew happens to be an assistant coach in the same league as the two participating teams (Colonial). Northeastern who has had a tremendous season with a 35-10 overall record and 22-3 in the conference has a winner take all game today against UNC-Wilmington, and the match up happens to be at Wilmington because they are hosting the tournament. If the Huskies lose, guess what, they will definitely be thrown into the at large pile. We need Northeastern to win this game!

As of this morning, D1Baseball still has the Stags as "last five in" at #61. Projects a #3 seed at Univ of Florida, meeting Miami in 1st game. Rider is projected as the #4 seed at U Tennessee.

For those less familiar with the sport, it would be unprecedented for Fairfield to get an at-large and be on the 4-seed line. Those are usually reserved for auto-bids.
But perhaps given the unprecedented nature of Fairfield’s schedule, it could happen.
It really doesn’t matter what seed you are-If Stags are to advance they will very, very likely need to beat the 1 seed at some point.

Advancing, not on my radar at this point! . Just get into the tournament would satisfy me. Mid- majors rarely advance in any NCAA tournament no matter what sport or whether or not Men’s or Women’s. The major conferences control the tournaments with their superior athletes and better programs. Just the way it is!

But baseball is different than football and hoops. Coastal Carolina, Cal State Fullerton, UC Irvine, and my alma mater, Rice, have all been to Omaha many times over the last 20 years and all except UCI have won the national championship. Thinking about teams from the northeast-Stony Brook made it to Omaha in 2012 (I was there-was awesome to see both them and Akron go up against the big boys). Dream big!

Houston, Interesting point. I did not know there was some history of mid-major baseball teams advancing. Sure would love to dream big! However, I have been a FF sports fan for close to 50 years, so reality tends to damper dreams. One thing about the teams you quote, they are from warm weather climates the west , southwest and the south. Teams from those areas major or mid- major tend to be stronger then NE teams and I would think have a better chance to accomplish their dreams.

As far as the WS, I myself was there in 2007 at the old stadium (Rosenblatt). Unbelievable experience, that's for sure. Were you at that venue or had the new one opened up yet? Just my opinion from watching on TV, but I kind of liked the old one better (although I have not been to the new one yet). Anyway, Omaha is a perfect setting for the event, certainly advanced by the very close downtown entertainment area of many interesting shops and restaurants.
