Is it just me or does it look like they aren't leaving enough of "opening"(exit) to get that assembly crane out of the center of the Convocation building?
As much as we joked about watching this construction, now that it's progressed I've found it really interesting.
We pass by things for years and don't really see them. I read an essay a while back by a Harvard professor on this subject and it was fascinating.
In that vein, didn't realize how the land where AH sat was perfect for a "bowl" configuration. The front door was a ground level and we stepped down with the rear doors similar to a walkout basement.
Now watching the new building construction, it appears we are looking at the first level concourse going up which is above ground level on the parking lot side and will wrap around to ground level in front. As we saw, there was not a tremendous amount of excavation that needed to be done to get the court below ground when you walk in the door. Essentially the old red sea bleachers at the back of AH were almost the height as both levels will be. (Pete D'Orio, what a visionary.)
Wish we had more camera angles.

More camera angles!!! I would settle for one good clear camera angle. Instead FF true to form places the camera behind two trees which obscure the picture. Typical “ half assed” effort.
Now that the steel is going up you can get a good sense of how big the building will really be. The architectural “ fly by” video gives you a good sense about the interior of the structure but not the volume of the building . The building will essentially dominate that part of the campus dwarfing the Rec Plex, campus center and school of nursing.
On campus today for VB match and I took a walk around the Convocation center construction site. I got to view the project from the other side of the existing construction camera. A perspective that you cannot view from the current construction camera. From what I can determine once completed the fans will be right on top of the court action. The CC center should give the stags a very good home court advantage!

If we can fill this place, what an incredible advantage. Looking at the construction as it makes its turn north with the eastern endzone, I'm wondering how they'll squeeze in the hardwood between the stands.
