Not a good start.
Ump missed a 'by rule' balk from Rider pitcher. Can't cross your right foot over your left knee and still throw to first. Watson would've been on 2nd with 0 outs and B3 might've turned out a little better if the call was made.

Currently sitting in Pomona watching Quinny Canisius, awaiting Stags playing the winner at 7:00. Tough road ahead for the Stags; hard to imagine them winning 3 games. As JB said this morning, 1st game today was huge and the Stags came up short. Go Stags!

Bullpen game tonight, I guess. Then a start for Ostensen and another BP game tomorrow. Thatโs why itโs not easily happening.

9-1 Stags in the 4th. Pagliarini only has a grand slam in the 2nd and a 3 run HR in the 4th. Must be close to 100 RBIs for the year. Helmstetter whatโs been terrific, 2 hits 0 walks thru 4.

What a heroic performance by Helmstetter. Blake's longest outing before tonight was five innings vs. Iona last weekend. Eight quality innings in an elimination game is spectacular; he may be a weekend starter next season. Unfortunately, he can't pitch tomorrow. Nor can Baker, Noviello or McVeigh. I like the idea of Ostensen going as long as he can in the first game, and we have a lot of well-rested, unused pitchers in the bullpen. Gonna need everyone to step up, do something, honestly, they haven't done all season long with any consistency. But that's how heroes are born. The wild card is Fairfield's offense. We are going to need to score a truckload of runs, likely double digits in both games. Pags is a maniac right now. He must lead the way tomorrow.
Problem is, Rider will use their No. 3 starter and their bullpen has only thrown 3.2 innings in two games. Rider's super-closer Danny Kirwin can pitch all day long if needed. The Broncs have every advantage and all the intangibles. It's going to take a super-human effort -- and quite a bit of luck -- for the Stags to pull this off.
Temps in the high-70s on Saturday -- it will be a beautiful day to play two.

It will be interesting to see how Currier manages the pitching. I'm glad I stuck around to see Pags put on a show, what a game he had. BTW no traffic by staying late. One hour two minutes in the morning, the same one hour two minutes at 9:30. Hoping for the same tomorrow.

Charlie Pagliarini continued his torrid season, tying his career-high with seven RBI on the power of a grand slam and a three-run shot while Blake Helmstetter tossed eight strong innings in leading the Fairfield University Baseball team (36-17) to a 12-4 win over Quinnipiac, clinching a spot in the MAAC Championship Series. The Stags will appear in the MAAC Championship Series for the third time in the last four seasons and will face the Rider Broncs. The Stags will have to beat the Broncs twice to be crowned the MAAC Champions. "I think the two stars of the game are Pagliarini and Helmstetter," Head Coach Bill Currier said. "Pagliarini certainly gave us the long ball at the right times with plenty of guys on base. Helmstetter really stepped up and threw three pitches for strikes and that's the kid we recruited and transferred here. He stepped up and did a great job and picked up our whole staff."Box Scorefairfieldstags.com/sports/baseball/stats/2023/quinnipiac/boxscore/136382023 MAAC Baseball ChampionshipSaturday at Noon, Game 10 - Stags vs. Rider*if necessary Game 11 starts immediately after Game 10 maacsports.com/tournaments/?id=1645ESPN+ ($) www.espn.com/watch/player/_/id/1e339e4e-e2c4-4fe0-88d5-c322b0a8f1cdLive Statssienasaints.com/sidearmstats/baseball/summary
