Late to the party in commenting (been away from a computer for awhile), but I want to second some of the thoughts as expressed by others regarding this excellent season by the Stag baseball team even if the final result wasn't what we all hoped it would be. However as is clear, Rider is a deserving champ and should be accepted as such I think. Hopefully they represent the MAAC well in the NCAA Tournament this week.
But speaking of the MAAC, although in general they gave us a first-class tournament at a great venue (although the infield bad bounces around the shortstop area on Saturday were not so great as Noah Lucier might attest to), one thing that was totally mishandled on that day was the concession screw-up between games. For in a brilliant bit of strategy that was not so well thought out, when the first contest ended and it was known there would be a second one after that with a 45 minute break between games, guess what, they were CLOSED when everyone was hungry even after they had been open earlier. A quick 5 minute trip to a commercial area solved the problem for a few of us, but still, this was not the best way to present the total package. And to finish the story and in a case of trying to fix things in a fashion similar to "closing the door after the horses have been let out of the barn," a couple innings after the second game was underway brought an announcement that the concession stands were now OPEN. You can't make this up! Anyway I hope this situation is fixed NEXT YEAR if the same situation occurs again.
The food when they are open is HORRIBLE and not deserving of the prices they are charging.
As the food is prepared off site, nothing is fresh.
The burgers are thin dried out shoe leather, dogs are paltry and condiments are horrible (squeezing packets with no kraut for your dog is no fun). ice cold fries and chicken tenders.
And to your point, the guys behind the counter have no. control over it and basically don't give a crap.
I wish I had a contact for someone at the MAAC to voice my opinion as it appears we will be at this venue for a few more years.
And quite frankly, the field itself is no bargain. Grass worn out in spots and the composition of the dirt infield is basically a sandbox when not immediately watered.
Yes it's a big nice looking stadium, but needs field work and put a couple of food trucks outside while you dump the ridiculous concession stand.
Well maybe me and my friends were lucky to not have to eat that food if it is as bad as you say it is. Anyway, concerning the field, although I am old fashioned and like grass and don't really think it looks that bad, your point about the infield was proven more than once with the bad hops in the middle of the diamond. As indicated above, shortstop Lucier almost had a major injury when he took one in the face. Baseball fans from way back might remember the Yankees Tony Kubek taking one in the throat off of a bad hop in Pittsburgh during the 1960 World Series, a key play that helped to doom the Bronx Bombers in that event. When the play happened on Saturday, that was the first thing I thought of in regards to a similarity.
