Can the Prophet finally lead the long suffering stag fans to the promised NCAA land? Who knows! I like Johnson’s size at 6’-3” . From field a very respectable shooting percentage .408 , solid FT percentage of .778 . However, I am not enamored with .194 from 3pt land on 6/31 shots. That is not very good.
But that’s exactly it, he only took 31 three point attempts. In 2022-23 he took 122 attempts from 3 and hit 30%. He will benefit by being around Perry (35% last year) and Sparks (41% last year).

Yeah I too noticed the lack of 3P attempts, probably meaning that wasn't the most important reason why the Stags recruited him in the first place. Hopefully his total game and personality will be a good fit in helping the team accomplish their goals in the coming season. TBD of course, but based on what I observed this past year I trust that Casey knows who he is bringing on board and understands the positives as well as the possible negatives in his game.
Shot 30 percent from 3 as a JUCO, so the stroke is there. Hopefully a summer with Casey Inc. helps as it has with our other guards.
Maybe the example set by Caleb Fields might be a good one to follow. For his first three years at Bowling Green produced nothing better than a 32% mark from the arc. Even Caleb's first season as a Stag was 32%. And we all know what happened this past year with a 38.8 mark. Point is I'm sure the Stags (and Jay Young) considered something other than just long-range shooting when they brought in Fields, things such as character and the motivation to become a better player. And I'm sure Casey is thinking along the same lines with his acquiring Prophet Johnson. How the guards work with each other will indeed be a major key to a successful 2024-25 for the team.

I am still very suspect of Prophets outside shooting. He played 30 games last year ( started 15) averaged 26 minutes per game. He attempted only one 3pt. per game on average and made only 6 shots thathe attempted. He is going to have get A LOT better this summer if he is going to become a solid guard for the stags.

Fields, Leach, Floyd, Goodine all eventually exceeded expectations, so who knows?. I would say so did Smith with his court vision and passing ability. I think we might have a breakout year from Rogan, Bleechmore and/or Curtis. Prophet is big guard who can drive to the hoop. His overall shooting percentage is probably helped by his layups. I agree that his role will not be instant offense, but he can help by his size and toughness. I think we have to have moved up in Federman’s projected MAAC pre-season rankings with these latest four commitments. One more really good addition …whether it’s Cook, Goodine or some late signing, and we will be among the top teams. I would not hold it against Cook for leaving given possible frustration with Young and Cooley’s charm factor. I would like to believe he knows he got “played” by Cooley.

Well, you could say he understands his weaknesses and won't waste possessions.😉
I agree with Nashville’s position —- Casey sees something in Prophet Johnson that convinces Casey that it’ll be worthwhile to have Johnson on our roster. There’s more to being a guard than knocking down 3s. Casey does seem to employ an offense which guards thrive in. And as long as Prophet’s form is good, he’s bound to get tons of reps this summer to improve his confidence. Don’t forget that in addition to Perry and Sparks, Rogan will be available for three point attempts and Jenkins hit a higher % on his 3 point attempts last year at Lafayette than Jasper Floyd hit for us. So maybe Casey wanted someone who can penetrate, force the defense to adjust and based off that adjustment either finish at the rim, kick it out to an open shooter or pass/lob it in to Seck, Smith, or Munkadi.

Who knows how a player will develop. No one can expect Prophet to be as good as Caleb Fields was. But if you go back and look at the posts when Caleb joined the Stags, no one expected anything close to the player he became.

He played three full years at Middlebury and one 11-game redshirt season (2019-20) due to "undisclosed reasons." D3 schools did not play during 2020-21, much like the Ivy League. Actually, he should be in the same boat as the Ivy League players who are trying to extend their careers.
Perhaps he took a sabbatical during the D3 COVID year? The upcoming season will be his sixth as a player (like Goodine). But seven years will have passed since he was a freshman (2018-19).
You can click around his Middlebury stats page if you're interested:
Women’s assistant coach Blake DuDonis posted this on Twitter and I’m not sure it applies equally to the men’s and women’s portal. I don’t have the facts but I would think probably 5 to 10 times as many men transfer looking for a better NIL situation than is the case in the women’s game. Do we really think Casey didn’t treat Leach, Goodine, and Floyd very well and that’s why they transferred?
Perhaps DuDonis only meant for his statement to apply to women’s basketball but if that’s the case, perhaps he should have inserted — in women’s basketball—- after People transfer in his tweet.
