Small glimpse into the quality of player CTD is looking to add.

I would have thought we would have heard about a significant women’s portal transfer into FF by now given all the publicity that FF women basketball and CTD had last season ?

I would imagine they are well into the process of evaluating, contacting, and arranging visits.
Are we in a dead period for transfer activity? I don't know how that works.

I agree the NIL $ is on the smaller scale on the women's side but it still makes a difference. For the women, it's happening on the non-basketball side in the smaller sports in mid-major conferences. Recruits (are being told anyway) that they are going to get NIL $ 5-10K and that makes a difference. If they are being told that in the lower tier sports, I'd have a hard time believing that wasn't happening on the basketball side and with slightly higher amounts.

Amari DeBerry 6’6” Junior and Ines Bettencourt 5’9” sophomore guard from UConn entering portal. DeBerry was a McDonalds All American but never fit into Auriemma’s movement offense and played very little. But she’s 6’6” and we could use a big. Bettencourt seemed pretty saavy, solid player when she did play. but also didn’t get much playing time. She’s from Portugal. Could contribute right away.

I have a feeling DeBerry would crush it at Fairfield. Hopefully the feeling is mutual.

I have a feeling DeBerry would crush it at Fairfield. Hopefully the feeling is mutual. 31-2 without a center. Not sure she fits their style of play. Also I have seen her play over 3 years at end of games, usually against opponent’s subs. She cannot play.

C'mon. She was ranked #15 in her class. She was a McDonald's All American. She's 6'6". She's athletic. She's skilled. She's not injured. She absolutely can play. No. She didn't become one of the top forwards in the country at UCONN... a little too finesse... maybe not fiery enough... but that doesn't mean she couldn't be a huge (literally) part of next year's Stags. One guy's opinion on why she didn't succeed at UCONN with plenty of video. www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQ9dfL4WvFk&t=10s

I heard or saw nothing on youtube above to change my thinking. You think this staff wants to bring in someone who doesn't practice well?

My hope is that she might find a better match with Fairfield and CTD/staff in a conference and a style where she can thrive vs. trying the P5 route, again. 6'5"/6'6" (with all due respect) athletic women basketball players do not grow on trees. I think that's what you're missing. She's certainly not the only option. I look forward to finding out who the team recruits.

She’s intriguing because you can’t teach height.
One of the best and worst coaches traits is the thinking that they can fix a kid’s mentality. Maybe CTD can. Maybe she can’t. Geno and crew couldn’t. Some kids aren’t made for the spotlight of a UConn type program. Elena Della Donne thrived post UConn

I would not touch a kid with poor attitude, academics, work ethic, people skills. Why would we? The last season looked like pure joy on the sidelines for everyone. Keep doing what you are doing with good, quality, team players and try and fill the holes with the same type of players.
