With AJR, Maidoh, TJ Long, Supreme, Willis along with possibly a couple of others (Lemetti, Edokpayi) playing this upcoming season, I’ve started a thread to follow how they do. Major Madness is listing Long as a preseason 2nd team America East player.
And they’re picking him to be newcomer of the year in the AE.
1st team AE selection Clarence Daniels of New Hampshire will be facing us in Mahoney this season. Daniels scored 15 points against us last season; many early in the game when UNH opened up a comfortable lead which they never relinquished.
Here’s the section on Supreme from the write-up for Georgetown in the preseason publication, The Almanac:
Cook will likely step into a starting role. At 6-9 and 225 pounds, the fourth-year player averaged better than 13 points and eight boards for Fairfield last season. “You can tell he’s been coached well defensively,” Cooley said. Georgetown doesn’t need him to turn into Patrick Ewing as much as they need him to be a guy that can get somewhere around 10 points and seven boards a night, and Cooley fully believes that’s possible. “He’s better than people realize given how I’m going to use him,” said the head coach.

Well if Supreme indeed becomes the starter for Cooley, first of all I would wish him good luck with his new team, certainly something he will need considering some of his direct individual opponents will include 6-11 Joel Soriano of St. John's, a candidate for all BE recognition, Creighton's 7-1 future pro Ryan Kalkbrenner, and of course rising UConn star and possible lottery pick 7-2 Donovan Clingan. Other teams in the league are well-stocked in big players too, so it won't be a piece of cake for him. That said, if Ed can get the most out of his talents, surely Cook's decision to move to the big time will have helped him in his quest (I would assume) to acquire a better professional situation than he would have had if he had remained a Stag. Anyway, again, although most of us will miss him despite some of his faults which have been well-documented, I hope it works out well for him this season.

I don’t have any doubt he will score. Supreme had no trouble with Xavier’s two bigs. Defending those bigs Nash mentions is as tough for him as anyone else in the BE. But he’ll get his points and boards

CCSU had their open practice yesterday. Here’s one person’s assessment of what he thought AJR will be like for them this season.
Last season, on the 17 occasions that AJR attempted 3 pointers — he made 3 of them. Will be interesting to see if he hits a higher percentage of three pointers this season.
AJR can make 3pt shot “ on occasion”. His occasion last year was 18% entirely consistent with FF overall crappy 3pt shooting of 28%. The stags 3pt shooting must improve this year if FF is going to contend.

If AJR had a jump shot, he would have been a very good player, and would likely have been all-MAAC.
But he didn't.
Hope he finds his touch for his final year of college ball.

I think AJR's outside shot is not great but he is better than an 18% shooter. He got handcuffs placed on him when he got to a slow start from deep, and that greatly impacted the team in a negative way. In fairness to the coaches, they didn't believe he would hit 25% for the season. And they might have been right about this.
Time will tell if he can show improved shooting from deep he has definitely worked on his shot. On the interior, I think he will be able to take the ball to the hoop with regularity in the NEC and will be an elite defender. He is a very good get for Central, even if we might be better served to have someone at that spot that can hit from the outside, I think AJR will be missed.

I'm sure AJR will have a great year. He improved every year at Fairfield and I would expect that to continue. If he can hit some open 3P, then a great chance he's All-NEC. That might be the case, regardless.
