I think Rich Kelly is an excellent mid-major player. That said, he sits on the bench at a big time program. So why is he entering the portal?
With the other Quinny players leaving, yes they will be struggling next season, but he will be an all time greats at QU if he graduates.
And, let's get real. Seriously, come to FU? Give up being one of the best Quinny players ever, to play in the same dog crap conference in front of the same 1000 fans in a much more cavernous off campus arena. Really?
But quite honestly, if the other top QU players transfer, he might be looking for a team that has a better post season shot or a college that offers a post grad major that better fits his needs if they don't change the rule.
Just wondering what these guys are looking for in their senior year.
Well given the nature of the make-up of basketball squads, it could just be one player that is better than another that could make life miserable for anyone who thinks they will be the main man at a certain position. Therefore Rich has to be careful where he goes if he does indeed elect to go somewhere else. As far as transferring to Fairfield, sure from our standpoint he would help the team greatly. But like you say, I believe he would be looking to move to a better conference. Only thing I could think of that would possibly get him here is the chance to play with his brother. But that's highly unlikely anyway considering he would probably have to split up some of the minutes to Caleb Green unless Jay could play them together. It's interesting to think about as obviously the Stags desperately need good guards, but realistically it's highly unlikely this would happen IMO.
Rich Kelly has been at Quinnipiac for 3 years. He is a very good player. So is Marfo. They are All MAAC. They had Cameron Young too who was All MAAC. But as a team and under Mike Dunleavey they are under .500 and really underachieved. Kelly just might want to play for a team that has a better chance of winning a MAAC Championship. Stags need to take advantage of bringing in some Top Transfers that Kelly could team with. We need to bring in top talent right away.
why would we want 2 combo guards on the floor at the same time, that can pass, drive to the hoop and score, hit the 3, and be game changers, that would be silly - -
Why stop with 2 combo guards...... go for 3. And make sure they play with "Grease Lightening" so they can also play defense. Just imagine....... Quick Combo Guards playing under a Jay Young Defense.
Sign me up.
If the new NCAA Recruiting rules do go into effect, then we have a "new normal"
Does anyone know if Chef,John, and Caleb practiced with the team this past year? If they did, how did they do?
I was at a Live Practice over the summer. Caleb Green was not there but Ngalakulondi and John Kelly were. Thoughts on Ngalakulondi
- I felt Ngalakulondi was the best player on the team - Exactly the type of player we need....... very athletic - Probably a PF, that can take it to the hoop and drive - His range is dunks thru 3-pointers. Defensively he can block shots.
- John Kelly can shoot - Needs to get stronger and learn to take players off the dribble

Murphy and Kelly would be great adds. Don’t know if they’re close-1 year together might be a great way to end their playing careers on the same campus that they started.

Don't forget JS, we both watched Green perform in the Red-White scrimmage in the fall, did we not? Caleb will be a difference-maker at PG I think based on his speed, ability to get the ball to scoring positions either for himself or his teammates, and on top of that I think he should be a good on the ball defender. To be honest, a lot of these qualities, at least in a package, were lacking this past year as both Taj and Aidas were not really 'complete' players in regard to the position. So because of this I believe he will be a very important addition to the team next season.

They practiced with the team all year. But other than a couple of 'open' events (see comments by JS and myself above), because they were closed to the public obviously it was hard to get a read on how they did on a day to day basis.
Here is what I said about Caleb Green back in October. Bring on the Speed.
Another nice surprise was that Caleb Green has a well rounded game and is a True PG who can shoot. He also is a non-stop hustle guy and team leader. Too bad we have to wait a year. He is our Mr PG.

4 schools in 4 years is quite the nomadic run for Flavors. But... if his dream is to play in the Pac-12 (maybe Washington or Washington St.) he probably has a chance to get it.

I've hunted around and found some gameplay of Chef from 2018 vs. Niagara (I think) and MarylandEShore (I also think) - in any case... you can see the above characteristics in those games.
I suspect he'll be a very good player for Fairfield - I just hope he isn't one-and-done!
